Weather: New Year's Eve with the sun, but from 1 the frost arrives

The forecasts for the New Year's bridge confirm high pressure over almost the whole country, with mild temperatures for the period: from the new year, however, icy winds and snowfalls also arrive in the South - VIDEO.

Weather: New Year's Eve with the sun, but from 1 the frost arrives

It will be a sunny New Year's Eve, over almost all of Italy, just like Christmas was. After a particularly rainy month of November, December was drier and the trend is also confirmed for the last few days of 2018, which will see good weather almost everywhere on the peninsula and relatively mild temperatures too, for the period, both on Sunday 30 and (minus) on Monday 31. Afterwards, in the first days of 2019, the weather will continue to be mostly sunny but there will be a sharp drop in temperatures, which will bring snow and frost to the North and a little rain (and also snow, at higher altitudes) in the central south.

Sunday is dominated by high pressure, with temperatures still above average: the maximum temperatures will hardly drop below 10 degrees in the capitals, including those in the North: 9 degrees are expected in Milan and Turin, 11 degrees in Trento, even 13 in Bolzano, as well as in Genoa. Also in Rome the maximum will be around 13-14 degrees, in Palermo it will touch 15, with a minimum of 13. Slightly less mild on New Year's Eve, with some snowfall in the North East and possible rain on the Adriatic side of Central Italy.

Temperatures will therefore drop as early as the 31st, but never as much as will happen at the turn of the new year: on 1 January the north winds will bring the mercury column below zero degrees from north to south, and in Milan the maximum will not exceed 3 degrees. Same script, as far as it is possible to anticipate 4-5 days in advance, for Wednesday 2 January, when there will also be cloud cover in the Center and possible snowfalls in the Dolomites. Also of note, in the next few days, probable fogs on the northern plains, with a very high level of air pollution.
