An important showcase for the Freisa di Chieri that opens from 26 to 28 May: in 2023. The symbolic wine of Piedmont, now recognized and appreciated even outside the regional and national borders, it celebrates this year 50 years of DOC. with three days of parties, guided tastings, theatrical performances, exhibitions and combinations of gastronomic excellence, artistic and cultural proposals with an eye to the environment.

La XIII edition of "From Freisa in Freisa" the event organized by the Municipality of Chieri and the Consortium of Freisa di Chieri and Collina Torinese aims to pay homage to the wine of Turin and its hills by promoting the gastronomic and cultural excellence of a territory rich in treasures. The main theme of this year's edition will be sustainability in all its forms, a real common thread linking the many initiatives planned.

“If 2022 celebrated the Freisa vine of the year for the Piedmont Region, 2023 represents an equally prestigious year for our Consortium. The 50 years of the DOC Freisa di Chieri are in fact an important milestone, an indisputable recognition of the work and seriousness of our producers - Says Marina Zopegni, President of the Consortium of Freisa di Chieri and Collina in Turin - As always, the annual Di Freisa in Freisa it wants to be a great moment of celebration for everyone but also of reflection and budgeting. Thanks to the commitment of the City of Chieri we can showcase the best of our territory, not only from an oenological point of view but also from a gastronomic, cultural and artistic point of view. We can team up to promote ourselves and reflect on current issues related to the world of wine, but also agriculture, territorial development and good environmental practices".

The first news of Freisa dates back to the XNUMXth century, when it was mentioned as Fresearum in the customs tariffs of the municipality of Pancalieri. It was considered one of the most widespread grape varieties in Piedmont also thanks to its rusticity and resistance to summer drought. Today Freisa is widely distributed in the metropolitan city of Turin and in particular in the Chierese and Pinerolese areas. Its morphological characteristics: shoot: with an expanded and fan-shaped apex, characterized by glabrous or only slightly pubescent leaves, light green in colour, the bunch when ripe is elongated and almost cylindrical, rather loose, with a long green peduncle, the pulp it is rather sweet in taste and gives a colorless juice.

The vine is also known by the synonyms: barbera, encore, spannina, fessietta, frati, fratina, ghemme, grananella, ivanna milanese, lugenga nera del Piemonte, marchesa, marchesa di Calabria, marchesana, marchisa, martesana, monferrato, monferrina, spanin , spanna, Milanese span, Monferrato span, spannina.

Rich in nuances and versatile, the Freisa di Chieri is declined in many ways: from bubbles vinified in rosé, to moved Freisa, from the still one aged in barrels or not, up to the sweet sparkling wine. The color is ruby ​​red tending towards garnet, the flavor is delicate with hints of raspberry and rose and violet.

The fulcrum of "Di Freisa in Freisa" will, as always, be the area dedicated to Freisa producers who will offer their best labels for tasting in an elegant and completely renovated setting.

Masterclasses, tastings, show cooking, meetings and insights with a keen eye on sustainability

The Freisa Lounge, in the central Piazza Cavour, will host masterclasses, tastings, showcooking, meetings and insights dedicated to the world of Freisa and more generally of wine with an eye to sustainability: from conscious drinking through quality mixology in a musical aperitif, to food pairings in collaboration with the Maestri del Gusto of Turin. From the tasting of various Freisa productions with sustainable characteristics together with Vincenzo Gerbi, to the vertical to get to know the Albugnano 549 Association, host of the event, and its wines up to an in-depth look at the unprecedented faces of Freisa.

With Palazzo di Città will host the banquets of artisan producers, in Piazza Europa there will be a rediscovery of the ancient culture of wine and the Chieri vineyard in the company of Avignazapp, while Via Vittorio Emanuele will be the stage for the photographic, pictorial and various arts exhibition organized by the Unione Artisti del Chierese.

Furthermore, during the event, the local cellars will open their doors to visitors for a further immersion in the Freisa world.

On the occasion of Di Freisa in Freisa, then, the City of Chieri will open the doors of its churches and museums in an event entitled "Between music and history", hosting exhibitions, conferences, events and concerts inside its magnificent churches to the collaboration with the Compagnia della Chiocciola, but also themed guided tours such as “Nunc est bibendum. Wine in Roman Chieri” scheduled for Sunday afternoon at the MAC (Chieri Archaeological Exhibition, which can also be visited by appointment on Saturday afternoon) and cultural walks in the farmhouses and in the surrounding nature.
