New obstacle on the road to the future "European fiscal compact", the budget pact that should lock down the accounts of EU countries. After the now certain niet of Great Britain, today it is Poland to lay down precise conditions: “We will not accept the latest version of the treaty – said the premier of Warsaw, Donald Tusk – because it calls into question the community principles”.
The signature will come only if all "states that assume this responsibility will play a role in the decision-making process on the implementation of the agreement". Translation: the rudder of the ship must not be exclusive to the Eurozone. Poland - which is not part of the monetary union - also believes that the fiscal rules of the Fiscal Compact "are not completely ambitious and not brave enough".
Another point of disagreement is that on Eurozone leaders: Tusk would like representatives of EU countries not belonging to the Eurozone to be admitted as welldespite not having the right to vote. So far, the new agreement instead simply provides that the heads of state and government of countries that do not belong to the monetary union be invited to the summits only "when it is deemed appropriate, and at least once each", on the decision of the president of the Eurogroup , Herman Van Rompuy.
