Venice, summer solstice (June 21) the magical night full of events returns

The night of the summer solstice returns to be emotion and entertainment with Art Night Venice 2014: Saturday June 21 in fact, the appointment with the evocative event conceived and coordinated by theCa 'Foscari University in collaboration with the town of Venice, which aims to involve all those involved in art and culture in the city.

“Since its inception, four years ago, Art Night – underlines Silvia Burini, Pro-Rector of Cultural Productions of Ca' Foscari, who was one of the creators of the initiative – has made a new wind blow along the Venetian streets. It has stimulated the birth and consolidation of important synergies that continue and develop throughout the year and are not only aimed at organizing the June night. Our students are often the protagonists who have committed themselves to the forefront of the partnerships activated with the major public and private institutions of the city".

"From events like this - reiterates the city councilor for Productive Activities and Commerce, Carla Rey - the city appears with a different face to the world, capable of attracting a less massified and more intelligent tourism and of promoting an 'other' way of take advantage of the thousands and thousands of places where culture lives, as well as a different model of relationship between institutions and tourist and productive activities. If urban quality is knowing how to live your city in an intelligent, 'smart' way – to use a term in vogue – then Art Night becomes one of the moments that qualify Venice, both for those who live there and for those who are their guests”.

The evening will begin, at the stroke of 18, in the central courtyard of the Venetian university, with the performance "Family Dress", a large, colorful and vital wave presented by MALIPARMI, partner of this edition of Art Night. The "Family Dress" is a "relational art" project conceived by Do-Knit-Yourself in collaboration with NABA, New Academy of Fine Arts in Milan: a mosaic of 30 dresses, a choral work woven by different realities in different places in the world. The dresses, two of which are made with embroideries and fabrics from the Malìparmi memory, are connected to each other with long trains. All together they will move, dancing in the audience, worn by the students of Ca' Foscari and all the Venetian universities and, accompanied by musicians, they will pour through the city streets. A fluid gait that ideally represents the plot of invisible but tangible relationships that Art Night, since its first edition, has carefully woven. Creativity, the true soul of the night, finds its new icon in the Family Dress.

From that moment on, and until late at night, the events will take place throughout the city, under the banner of encounters, culture and passions.

The key event of the night will be the presence of Nico Vascellari - one of the most significant visual artists on the national scene - who, together with Ninos du Brasil - a musical group of which he is a member - and Carlos Casas, a Spanish video artist, will mark the Art Night. The project is curated by Chiara Bertola. At 22.30 pm, at Ca' Foscari, Vascellari, together with Ninos du Brasil, will present the absolute preview of the new album “Novos Misterios” accompanied by videos by Carlos Casas specially created for the band.

Finally, the Venetian event is enriched this year with an important recognition, which also has international endorsement: with the 2014 edition, Art Night Venice officially becomes part of the European Art Nights led by the most famous one in Paris and which Venice it shares in Italy only with the cities of Bologna and Florence. To demonstrate that ideas, when they are really good, are recognized.
