Uzbekistan: the results of the Italian trade mission

Once the Italian trade mission in the Central Asian country has concluded, we evaluate the results through the press releases of the undersecretary Catia Polidori

A foreign trade mission in a distant country, and with little trade with Italy, such as Uzbekistan, represents only a first step towards the development of bilateral relations. However, at least judging by the press releases of the Mise undersecretary, the Hon. Catia Polidori, the results are promising.

“The spaces for collaboration are concrete,” says Polidori. “Mainly based on small and medium enterprises, the Uzbek economy boasts a growth rate close to 10%, is rich in raw materials, has a young and well-trained population. Second world exporter of cotton, Uzbekistan transforms only 30% of it into finished products, a percentage that will soon reach 50%, therefore with significant investment opportunities for our textile machinery companies. Alongside the textile sector, there are also the banking, tourism, automotive, energy and railway infrastructure sectors: precise areas where Italian know-how has a great chance of penetrating.”

The Mise action plan for the development of trade relations with Uzbekistan is based on 3 points:

- support for the country's accession to the WTO (World Trade Organization - WTO);

- intensification of direct contacts with Uzbek suppliers and buyers, to reduce intermediation costs;

- market analysis on the main and most promising sectors for our trade with Uzbekistan (from infrastructure to textiles, from water treatment to agri-food, to tourist services).

We attach the 4 press releases that followed the days of the visit of the Italian delegation to the Central Asian country.
