Coinciding with these developments, the Pentagon launched an experimental missile tracking system to test a new plan that aims to cover low Earth orbit with hundreds of smaller, cheaper satellites, modeled Musk's Starlink: the idea is that, even if some of the US satellites were to be knocked out, the system could continue to function by moving to other units in the orbiting network.
