UniCredit focuses on the Genoa Aquarium and on sustainability

Unicredit focuses on the symbol of Genoa for the restart of the national tourism sector. The banking group has signed a three-year collaboration agreement to support and enhance the activities of the Genoa Aquarium. In particular, UniCredit will be the official partner of the new project to renovate the exhibition itinerary which will include, as early as next year, new installations and evocative experiences centered on the theme of sustainability.

The Genoa aquarium is the largest exhibition of aquatic biodiversity in Europe: with over 27 square meters, 70 tanks and 12 animals of 400 different species. The Bank will be present with its logo throughout the process and has also provided incentives for its employees to encourage them to visit the facility, relaunching their recovery path.

The Bank has chosen the Genoa Aquarium because it is in line with its mission of sustainability and environmental awareness, through the program "UniCredit for Italy” which has been designed to be of support to local communities, with interventions and initiatives that can be a springboard for the restart.

In this project UniCredit will not be alone but supported by the Aquarium management company: Costa Edutainment, leader in Italy in the edutainment sector. For over twenty years committed to sustainability, understood in the broadest sense, as a commitment to corporate management guided by solid ethical principles and oriented towards the creation of shared economic, social and environmental value.

In 2019, the company also received the important recognition of the Special Award in the Integrated Reporting category of the Budget Oscar for the Best Italian Integrated Report by Ferpi, Borsa Italiana and Bocconi University.

Sustainability is also one of the pillars on which the Banking Group is focusing, undertaking to protect the natural capital essential for building a sustainable future for the next generations. It is precisely on the sharing of these principles that a collaboration is born capable of relaunching tourism in the Ligurian territory.

"With this partnership agreement we wish to guarantee our support in favor of an important reality capable of restarting the entire national tourist-cultural sector, in the hope of soon seeing many Italians visit and be enchanted by the wonders that the aquarium contains" - commented Fabrizio Simonini, UniCredit North West Regional Manager.

“Today we are starting a new stretch of entrepreneurial road with a great Italian and international partner – he declared Beppe Costa, President and CEO of Costa Edutainment – The point of contact that found us in agreement with UniCredit were the sustainability objectives that we as Costa Edutainment have always pursued through conservation projects for endangered species, the dissemination action with respect to the need to safeguard natural resources with particular reference to aquatic ones and in recent years also the fight against plastic pollution in the seas.”

There are numerous initiatives launched by the Banking Group in this critical phase due to the health emergency, especially in favor of households and businesses. Another example are the 15 million euro disbursed to Emak Spa, a worldwide reference player in the offer of innovative solutions for gardening, agriculture, forestry and industry, a company that has been listed on the Milan Stock Exchange in the STAR segment since 1988.

The loan was guaranteed in a few hours by Sace, as part of the Garante Italia programme, and will be used to support the investment plan, working capital and personnel costs.
