Unicredit, Cassamarca: difficult to adhere to a capital increase

“We have already subscribed to two Unicredit capital increases. For a third there would be some difficulty, because we would have to use the money from our activities". This was stated by Dino De Poli, president of the Cassamarca Foundation, a shareholder of UniCredit with just under 1%. "UniCredit will have to sound out well - De Poli explained - whether the possibility of a capital increase finds consensus and confirmation in the possibilities of the foundations".

The managing director of Banca Federico Ghizzoni, in an interview with the Financial Times, had declared that the institute could choose to strengthen itself through the capital increase, the reduction of risky assets and the sale of assets. Up to now Unicredit is the only major Italian bank not to have launched a capital increase in 2011.

“Since UniCredit is aware that the money it gives us is the life of the foundations – added De Poli – it cannot give us money and immediately ask us back. Let him keep them directly. The capital increase is uncertain, it has not been decided, but we must also look at how to get there”. Shortly after 14 pm, Unicredit shares were trading at 30 euro, up 0,728%.
