Promote the Third sector for the economic and social restart of the country and of the South. It is with this objective that Unicredit, in collaboration with the Unicredit Foundation, organized the meeting “Together, We Can. The challenges of the South” held today in Naples. The intent was therefore to strengthen the partnership between the public, private and non-profit sectors, as well as discuss the potential of a sector which is showing important signs of growth in the country and in the South with significant employment implications. 

The boom of the third sector

That of Third sector and social entrepreneurship it is a very important reality in the country which has experienced strong expansion over the last 15 years and which involves over 360 institutions, 5,5 million volunteers and employs over 860 employees. The southern non-profit sector is also particularly dynamic, with 99 non-profit institutions present (27% of the national total), which employ 168 employees, equal to 20% of the national total.

Unicredit Foundation initiatives

Since the beginning of the pandemic, among the priorities of the associations of Third sector the need to continue distributing foodstuffs to the most needy emerged. In this context, the Unicredit Foundation immediately took action to support the organizations engaged throughout the national territory in the food distribution to all those who have found themselves in a state of difficulty, thanks to the donation of 5,1 million euros - the equivalent of 3,8 million meals - to 69 non-profit organizations throughout the country. In the South, over 1,8 million euros were donated, for a value of 1,3 million meals and 656 assisted people. In 2022 Unicredit Foundation also doubled its commitment with 1,2 million euros donated in the South alone: ​​510 thousand euros to the organization Campania Food Bank.

“Two difficult years of pandemic and the current economic context risk aggravating the situations of hardship in the country – he said Andrea Orcel, CEO of Unicredit –. Like Unicredit, we believe we have a social responsibility that goes far beyond financing. The goal is to respond to the needs of the communities we serve and who need our help most. This approach is fundamental to achieving our goal and commits us to dialogue more and more with the third sector to find together new opportunities for collaboration and better support the weakest sections of the population"
