The UN Security Council has indeed reached agreement on the name of Ban Ki-moon's successor. The formal vote is scheduled for tomorrow in the Palazzo di Vetro. The current president of the Security Council, Vitaly Churkin, explains: "We have decided to proceed with a formal vote tomorrow morning at 10 by acclamation". For formal ratification, the approval of the General Assembly will then be required before taking office, which will take place on January XNUMXst. The former Portuguese prime minister and former High Commissioner for Refugees therefore won the competition from the vice president of the EU Commission, Kristalina Georgieva and the director general of UNESCO, Irina Bokova. Ban Ki-moon's term ends on December 31st.
