UK: unemployment down to 4,8%

Data released by the London statistics agency, relating to the first quarter after Brexit, signal the lowest unemployment rate in the last 11 years. Although the referendum result has signaled a possible recession, the economy is currently holding up.

The ONS (Office for National Statistics) and the ILO (International Labor Organization) announce that in the July-September quarter the unemployment rate, on a monthly basis, in the UK fell to 4,8%, lower than expected but above all the previous period
(June-August, 4,9%). The rate remains at its lowest since October 2005. 

In addition, in October the number of jobless applicants for unemployment benefits increased by 9.800, compared with a revised September figure of 5.600 units. This data turns out to be worse than the expectations of analysts, who had foreseen an increase of only 2.200 units. 

On the other hand, the rate of claims for unemployment benefits m/m closed in line with expectations (2,3%)., which stands at +2,3% in September, remaining in line with the August figure.
