EU: Consumerclassroom launches, website for consumer education for young people

From the series: good consumers are not born but made. The site www.consumerclassroom.eu, funded by the EU Commission, was created to teach young people how to become responsible consumers. Consumers attentive to all aspects related to the action of consumption: the scarcity of resources, rights, health.

Managed by Adetef, Astec, Siveco, Euronet, Federconsumatorie and other international partners, the site places consumption among the skills that every person must learn throughout their life. It targets teachers across Europe and provides them with educational resources and targeted interactive tools.

On the site (available in 21 languages, including Italian) the material is divided on the basis of subjects (such as, for example, art, biology, business economics, catering, the sociology of consumption) and on the basis of themes. The themes are the areas of reflection that a responsible consumer must take into greater account; among these we find: consumer rights, sustainable consumption, advertising and commercial practices, information and communication, education in the use of the media.

For each subject and theme, files are available on the site (in different formats) that can be used by teachers or by the students themselves as a support to the lessons. The logic is to create an online community that brings together students and teachers from all over Europe, a network that becomes "the authoritative voice of consumer education“. To train young people and give an informed face to tomorrow's consumers.
