Agreement between Terna , State Police. The CEO, Stefano Donnarumma and the Chief of Police - Director General of Public Security Lamberto Giannini have signed a new agreement aimed at developing and strengthening existing synergies for the purpose of ensure the safety of electrical infrastructures throughout the Italian territory.
The agreement protects 75 km of power lines and 900 electricity stations
The agreement is part of the Memorandum of Understanding between Terna and the Ministry of the Interior which has the objective of safeguarding power stations and lines, increasingly strategic infrastructures for which it is essential to ensure continuity of operation.
The prefect Lambert Giannini emphasized that “the State Police for many years he has paid particular attention to safeguarding critical infrastructures and in this context the protection of energy networks, thanks to the new agreement signed today, has an even more strategic importance, also in relation to the current international scenario”.
According to the central anti-crime director, prefect Francesco messina, "with today's signing, the decades-long experience gained by the State Police in territorial control activities is made available to Terna with a view to guaranteeing the security of the national electricity grid".
"The protection of 75.000 kilometers of power lines and 900 electricity substations throughout Italy is an activity that has the highest priority for us and that we carry out with great commitment", comments the CEO of Terna, Stefano Donnarumma. “The agreement signed today represents an evolution of the collaboration with the State Police. Indeed, thanks to this agreement, we are making technologically advanced protection systems available to the State Police and, what is even more important, we are sharing skills and know-how to make the infrastructures managed by Terna increasingly safe and reliable", added Donnarumma.
Agreement between Terna and the State Police: what the agreement provides
In detail, according to the agreement, Terna is committed to developing the telematic connection with the Police of State for the live control of the monitored sites, facilitating the exchange of information and images between the Security Operations Center (SOC) of the transmission network operator and the territorially competent police headquarters. Added to this is the commitment to provide the territorial structures of the Police, involved in the surveillance of sensitive sites of the electrical infrastructure, as well 300 technological devices to promptly manage the sending of geolocated reports of any intrusion attempts, speeding up the intervention by the Police operators.
With this understandingmoreover, Terna and the State Police undertake to carry out a joint training activity, the sharing of skills and know-how on the intervention procedures to be implemented, as well as analysis of the IT and telematic systems and technologies adopted, to prevent, manage and counter any form of offense relating to the infrastructure managed by Terna.
