“It is not easy to predict what our cities will be like in the future because technology proceeds in a non-linear way, but today we are already witnessing the birth and growth of temporary work communities active on regional trains which become a smart and co- working, with epochal changes in traditional categories such as worked time and free time, which were not even conceivable just a few years ago". She declared it Andrea Gibelli, President of Asstra (transport association), on the occasion of the Forum “The straight path: regional rail transport for the mobility of the future” at theRailway Expo – the biennial international exhibition for railway technologies, products and systems – at the Milan Rho Fair.
Greater travel-work conciliation
“If we then talk about energy we are witnessing the revolution of the stations which from 'non-places' are changing profoundly, becoming energy islands in and for the city”, continued Gibelli, placing emphasis on the need for greater conciliation between work e journey. “Because being able to count on technological platforms that tell us, for example, how many people are on board a vehicle becomes relevant for choosing the most convenient means of transport, according to a concept of intermobility”. And again: “Today the needs and consumption styles of transport services are profoundly changing: in Lombardy, for example, commuter traffic is 36%, 40% is for leisure and 21% of passengers have more of 64 years, accessibility therefore becomes an enabling element of new market factors”.
The first Italian hydrogen train
“The integration between networks of systems, skills and technological supply chains supported by Asstra to proactively interpret the ecological transition is starting to produce the first concrete results, as demonstrated by the presentation of Fnm's hydrogen train and the advanced state of the projects for battery trains of the Appulo Lucane Railways". It's about the first zero-emission train for Italy designed for the non-electrified Brescia-Iseo-Edolo line, managed by Ferrovienord and Trenord, to replace the current diesel trains and represents a further step towards the decarbonisation of our country.
