The exhibition sees 120 unpublished photographs and documents – screenplays, sketches of sets and costumes, polaroids of screen tests, posters, letters – from the director's private archive. A story that narrates his relationship with the actors and memories of his private life.
The photographs tell the journey of Brass in its first expressive season, from Those who work are lost (1963) ad Action (1980).Here the Maestro is portrayed with some of his favorite actors, such as Alberto Sordi, Jean Louis Trintignant, Ewa Aulin, Anita Sanders, Tina Aumont, Gigi Proietti, Vanessa Redgrave, Franco Nero.The time for the liberation of the senses, from La chiave (1983) to Courbet hotel (2009 and shots by still photographer Gianfranco Salis.
With greater eros was created a dedicated section reserved for adults, where there is no shortage of the most forbidden images. Alongside the photographs, the film Instintobrass by Massimiliano Zanin.
Furthermore, a section of the exhibition itinerary will be dedicated to the study of the typography of Tinto Brass' film posters, thanks to the collaboration with Fantasia Type (Michele Galluzzo and Franziska Weitgruber) who in 2020 designed BRASS, the typeface used in the visual identity of the exhibition .
In the director's laboratory we will discover the man, his closeness to the characters in his films and his immense love for life.
Tinto Brass (1933) she graduated in law, then moved to Paris where she was archivist at the Cinémathèque Française. Back in Italy, he works as assistant director of Alberto Cavalcanti, Joris Ivens, Roberto Rossellini. Receives the unanimous attention of the critics most warned since his first work of him: Those who work are lost (1963). In 1964 she directed the two episodes The little bird e The car from the movie in My lady, with Silvana Mangano and Alberto Sordi. In the same year and with the same actors he created The flying saucer. In 1965 he dismissed Cairà and directed Yankee. In the 1966 With my heart in my throat, played by Jean-Louis Trintignant, begins the London film series: Black on white (1967); The scream (1969); Dropout interpreted by Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero. In 1971 he realizes The holiday with the same actors but shot in Italy. In 1975 he directed SalonKitty, and in 1976 the worldwide success Caligula, of which he did not sign the direction due to the well-known contrasts with the production. From La chiave (1983) to Courbet hotel (2009), the films of the best-known period of his career, Tinto Brass has chosen eroticism as a favorite theme of his filmography. Of all his films he has always personally edited; which gives his work an expressive unity of auteur cinema. The director has also worked in the theater, directing works such as Family lunch by Roberto Lerici (1973); The man of sand by Riccardo Reim, (1970) and Lulù by Wedekind (1990).
