Terna and the Police: agreement for the protection of the electricity grid

Terna has signed an agreement with the State Police which provides for the commitment to carry out synergistic actions aimed at improving the safety and protection of the critical infrastructures of the company led by Luigi Ferraris.

The agreement, explains the company in a note, "is part of the Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of the Interior and the descending agreement between the State Police, the Carabinieri and Terna with the aim of ensuring levels of protection physics of increasingly higher power stations and power lines”.

Based on the provisions, the agreement focuses above all on the integration into Terna's infrastructure of a specially created module called Energy (NRG) of the Mercury technological platform for territorial control, already used by the State Police . Through this structure they can be sent promptly reports of geolocated intrusion events at Terna's critical sites, speeding up any intervention by the police in case of need. “In this way – explains Terna – the methods for creating the connection between Terna's video alarm systems and the police operations centers will be technically regulated, as well as, through targeted procedures and innovative IT tools of its own Security Operations Center ( SOC), Terna will encourage an exchange of information and images with the territorially competent Police Headquarters".

“We are very satisfied with this agreement, he commented Luigi Ferraris, CEO and General Manager of Terna, which represents an important step forward in the path of collaboration already undertaken some time ago with the State Police. Ensuring the high security of the national transmission grid is a priority for us. Thanks to this strategic agreement, the activities relating to the protection of sensitive infrastructures such as those managed by Terna are improved and streamlined to make them increasingly safe and reliable through the innovation of protection systems and the precious technological know-how made available by the Forces of the Order".
