Terna launches the second edition of the “Driving Energy Award 2023 Contemporary photography”, the free competition open to all photographers in Italy, who will have until June 30th to enroll. The theme proposed this year is "In praise of balance": a cornerstone of Terna's mission which, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, guarantees, through dispatching, the balance between energy produced and consumed, allowing the electricity system to function better to enable the energy transition and transmit all the energy the country needs.
The new jury of the "Driving Energy Award 2023"
For the second year the curator of the Prize is Marco Delogu, known in the world of photography and president of Azienda Speciale Palaexpo. The jury also sees the confirmation of Lorenza Bravetta, consultant in the field of photography, as president, and of Massimiliano Paolucci, director of External Relations, Institutional Affairs and Sustainability of Terna. But there are 4 new entries: Mary Alicata, teacher and curator, Diana Dufour, editor and curator, Andrew Purgatori, journalist and television writer, e Francesco Zanot, curator, essayist and teacher. Also in this edition of the Prize, the jurors are assisted not only by the curator, but also by the Presidential Committee, made up of Valentina Bosetti e Stefano Donnarumma, respectively Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Terna.
The results of the first edition
The first edition of the competition saw the participation of over 1.300 candidates of all ages, from 18 to 85, from all over Italy, and the selection of 40 finalist works. Confirming the excellent results of the first edition, in terms of critics and participation, the 2023 Driving Energy Prize maintains the structure of the competition substantially unchanged, however introducing some innovations for the benefit of new talents in the sector.
The second edition
The second edition includes the Senior Award, worth 15 euros, open to participants aged 31 and over; The Youth Award, worth 5 euros, dedicated to photographers up to the age of 30, and the Mention for the Opera most voted by Terna, worth 2 thousand euros, open to all categories.
To these prizes are added two news, with the aim of making the cultural and social project of the competition even more inclusive. The first is represented by Amateur Award, worth 5 euros, open to those who do not fall into the categories of "authors" (photographers who carry out research recognized by publications and exhibitions) and "professionals" (photographers who practice in the most diverse fields, for example, directors of photography and video makers who carry out activities in the fields of advertising, fashion, entertainment, etc.).
The second is the Mention Academy, worth 2 euros, open to students enrolled in higher education realities in the sectors related to the Award (for example photography, contemporary art, fine arts).
The finalist photographic works will be exhibited in one show open free to the public, set up at Palace of Expositions, which will be inaugurated with the announcement of the five winners. They will also be published in the fourth edition of the photographic book Driving Energy, which is available as the official catalog of the Award.
The novelties of the second edition
An important novelty in the Governance of the Prize is the Honor Committee, which will award one of five prizes and is made up of the winners of the Driving Energy Award 2022: Paul Ventura (Senior Award with the work entitled "I Ginestra"), Gaia Renis (Youth Award with the photographic work “Stereocaulon vesuvianum”), Mohamed Keita (Special Mention to the work "Walking and walking..." inspired by the theme "Contemporary Normality"), Eva Frapiccinic (Special Mention to the photographic work "La porta di luce alias hommage to DM" inspired by the theme "Circularity. Courses and appeals"), and Andrea Botto (Special Mention to the work "Onda d'urto", attributed by Terna people) .
Donnarumma (Terna): "The ten-year development plan will be presented on 15 March"
Il Ten-year development plan of net of national broadcast "we will present it on March 15th". This was announced by CEO Donnarumma during the presentation of the second edition of the photography award "Driving Energy Award 2023". Terna's new Development Plan will outline the objectives and criteria which make up the planning process of the national electricity transmission grid for the 2023-2032 period.
