Ryanair, EasyJet and Volotea strike: June 8th a nightmare for travellers. All information

Wednesday 8 June risks becoming a nightmare day for travellers. Indeed, it was announced a strike by Ryanair pilots and flight attendants, the main low cost airline in the world, Malta Air, part of the group led by Michael O'Leary, and the CrewLink company. If that weren't enough, together with the employees of the Irish giant, those of will also go on strike EasyJet and Volotea. Expected numerous inconveniences and cancellations throughout Italy.

Ryanair, EasyJet and Volotea strike: timetables

The strike by Ryanair, EasyJet and Volotea records the simultaneous protest of the employees of the companies concerned. In fact, June 8 was announced a 4-hour national strike, from 10 to 14. Due to the unrest on Wednesday there could be delays and cancellations throughout Italy, with probable inconvenience for travellers. It could, among other things, be just the beginning given that the unions are announcing a "fiery" summer for the entire aviation sector.

The reasons for the strike

The heaviest reasons concern the pilots and flight attendants of Ryanair, Malta Air and CrewLink, who even complain of "lack of water and meals for the crew".

The strike was confirmed by the Filt CGIL and Uiltrasporti trade unions, "given the impossibility of opening a discussion dedicated to the problems that have been afflicting seafarers for months".

“Among the open issues – explain the trade union organizations – the failure to adjust to the minimum wages envisaged by the national contract, the persistence of an agreement on salary cuts (contingency agreement) which is no longer current, the arbitrary reductions in the paycheck, the non-payment of sick days, the company's refusal to grant days of compulsory leave during the summer season and the lack of water and meals for the crew”.

For EasyJet, instead, the staff of the British airline will protest "against the compression of rights culminating in unjustified dismissals - explains Uiltrasporti - against the lack of operational solidity, to the detriment of passengers and crews and against the total degradation of industrial relations"

Infine, per Volotea it denounces "a continuous anti-union conduct carried out by the company: unacceptable requests for salary reductions, promotions and economic upgrades at the company's unquestionable judgment in order to effectively exercise real control over its employees, to which are added disciplinary disputes in contrast with Italian law".

Strike by Alitalia-Sai and Ita Airways ground workers

On the same Wednesday, June 8, the Cub Trasporti union called a four-hour strike, this time from 13 to 17 pm, by the ground workers of Alitalia-Sai, in receivership, and of Ita Airways. At the basis of the protest there is “the Alitalia stew which is causing strong reductions in personnel in handling in Rome and Milan and in maintenance employees in the capital”. "We are against the dismemberment of Alitalia and the privatization of Ita which is the tombstone of the project to relaunch a flag carrier", adds Antonio Amoroso, national secretary of Cub-Trasporti. The problems mainly concern Fiumicino where Swissport, the company that won the tender called by Alitalia for the sale of ground services, says it wants to hire only 1.451 people, "that is, a thousand less than the current male and female workers", underline the unions .
