Spain: over 5 million unemployed, new historic record

In Spain, unemployment has reached a new all-time high: there are more than five million people out of work. According to the Ministry of Employment of Madrid, in February the number of unemployed grew by 1,2% compared to the previous month (equal to 59.444 people), a growth which in any case is more than halved compared to that recorded in the first month of 2013 (+2,7% on December 2012).

From the survey by the national institute of statistics, which as foreseen by the European rules Eurostat also includes the active population and those looking for work, it emerges instead that the unemployed in Spain are almost six million.

With these parameters, the threshold of five million was already exceeded in 2011. Data from the Ministry of Labour, on the contrary, indicate only people registered with employment offices, excluding, for example, those looking for work during or after their studies.
