Monday 25 November will be a day of inconvenience in many Italian airports due to a series of strikes by air traffic controllers which could jeopardize the flights scheduled for the day, causing inconvenience to travellers. 

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport reduced the hours foreseen for the ENAV staff strikes on Monday 25 November from 24 to 4 hours (13.00-17.00). Enav's managing director Roberta Neri declares in a note: “We welcome what has been decided by MIT. We are currently working in coordination with the airlines to restore flight operations by causing the least possible inconvenience to users on Monday 25th. We are confident and optimistic that, despite the short time available, we can guarantee punctuality of all flights in the hours outside the time slot of the strike".

In detail, Enav informs that from 13 to 17 on Monday 25 November the unions FILT-CGIL, FIT-CISL, Uiltrasporti, UGL-TA, Assivolo have called a national strike for 24 hours (reduced to 4 from Mio). Among the reasons behind the strikes are the Alitalia crisis, the refinancing of the air transport solidarity fund and the general situation of the sector, with the request of the unions to all operators to apply the national contract.

In parallel, at the same time, they are 5 local strikes are also planned which will concern: 

  • Padua Area Control Centre;
  • Brindisi Area Control Centre;
  • Milan Linate Airport – ARO CBO facility;
  • Ancona Falconara Airport;
  • Perugia airport.

Others are also planned 4-hour strikes, always from 13pm to 17pmwhich will affect: 

  • Area Control Center in Rome;
  • Rome Ciampino Airport;
  • Bari Airport;
  • Pescara airport.

NEWSSTANDS STRIKE 26 NOVEMBER

The next day, Tuesday 26 November, there will also be a national newsstand strike, with demonstrations planned throughout Italy.
