Renewables, the new incentives are coming: 9 billion from the Government

The decree for incentives for non-photovoltaic renewables, signed by the Minister of Development Carlo Calenda, has been published in the Official Gazette. Here's how they'll be broken down

(Teleborsa) – The decree for incentives for non-photovoltaic renewables, signed by the Minister of Development Carlo Calenda, has been published in the Official Gazette, and has a total value of 9 billion over 20 years. The decree was approved on June 23 last year.

The decree in question puts 435 million euros on the plate a year in favor of new plants built by 2016 other than photovoltaic. The incentive period has a duration of 20 years, except for thermodynamic solar energy which provides for a longer period of 25 years. The incentives will end when the ceiling is reached or in any case by 31 December 2016.

Not all renewables have the same weight: the largest package of 105 million is assigned to biomass, another 98 million to solar thermodynamics, 85 million to wind power (plus 10 million for offshore), 61 million to hydroelectric and 37 million to geothermal. Then there are another 29 million for "redevelopment", i.e. the modernization of old renewable power plants.

The incentives will be assigned with the Dutch auction procedure: by 20 August the GSE will publish the notice and applications can be presented by the end of October.

With the publication of the decree, the applause of the Solid Biomass Energy Association also arrived. “A provision – it is underlined – that sector operators have been waiting for for some time and whose wait, which lasted almost nine months, has gradually generated uncertainties and concerns, creating many problems for the entire solid biomass supply chain”.
