First obstacles for Italicum: the crux is gender equality

The path of the Italicum continues, but begins to get bumpy. Renzi's majority, from 378 yes in confidence and gradually dropped to 316 no in the second ballot on the amendments to the electoral law, passing through the 341 no in the first vote, sounding a small alarm signal on what could happen in the next votes secrets.

Among the norms. the one that dispenses the greatest concerns is that on gender equality, on which there is a risk of splitting. The committee of nine, waiting to verify whether the conditions for an agreement exist, has shelved the amendments on the subject. An attempt is made to convince Forza Italia to accept a compromise on the basis of the European directive which indicates that "each gender must be represented with a maximum of 60% and a minimum of 40%". There The current law, which is much debated, in fact provides for a gender alternation on a regional basis without stringent constraints on the order of the list.

The proposed changes all have Democrat Roberta Agostini as the first signatory, but they boast bipartisan signatures, including those of many Forza Italia deputies and not only such as Stefania Prestigiacomo, Mara Carfagna, Renata Polverini and Micaela Biancofiore. If an agreement is not found to modify the armored pact, the situation risks getting out of hand, especially with the secret ballot. The time for agreements, however, is short, and the risk of chaos remains.
