Continue the triumphal march of Donald Trump towards the US presidential elections. The New York tycoon remained the only candidate in contention in the Republican primaries after winning cleanly in West Virginia and Nebraska, where he won all 36 delegates up for grabs. His opponents have withdrawn from the race, but voters can still decide to vote for them and Trump has yet to reach the fateful quota of 1.237 delegates that would allow him to arrive at the July convention with his back covered.
In the democratic field, Bernie Sanders won the Democratic primary in West Virginia with 51% of the vote, to Hillary Clinton's 37%. Speaking at a rally in Oregon, where voting takes place next week, the Vermont senator admitted that his campaign "has to climb a steep hill," but reiterated that he intends to fight "to win the Democratic nomination" and "fight for every vote in Oregon, Kentucky, California and the two Dakotas”.
By now, however, the gap compared to her rival seems unbridgeable: Clinton remains in the lead with 1.600 delegates, 300 more than the senator, and can count on the majority of super delegates to secure the nomination at the July convention in Philadelphia, where a majority of at least 2.383 votes is needed . Sanders' only hope is to convince a portion of the superdelegates to change their minds.
