Pd primaries, today in the vote with Renzi in pole position

Tonight the Pd will have the new secretary at the conclusion of the primaries, for which all citizens and not just party members can vote today (from 8 to 20) in 8 gazebos throughout Italy. Matteo Renzi, for whom Prime Minister Gentiloni has also taken the field in the last few hours, is the great favorite over the Minister of Justice Andrea Orlano and the Governor of Puglia, Michele Emiliano. The outcome of the vote will be known in the evening.

But, beyond the result, the turnout also counts. “If a million people come to vote, it's a success” comments the former prime minister, but Orlano and Emiliano don't think so.

The Primaries are a crucial junction not only for the top management of the first Italian party (M5S is a movement) but for the developments of Italian politics and for the fate of the legislature. If Renzi wins, will there be a race for early elections? This is what the former prime minister's opponents claim but in reality a lot will depend on whether or not it is possible to finally find an agreement on the new electoral law and it won't be easy at all. List or coalition award? Much depends on this and it will not be easy to find the right balance between opposing tendencies.

If Renzi returns as secretary, will he ally himself with Berlusconi, as did his predecessors? Probably the former premier, who has never closed the doors to Giuliano Pisapia's progressive camp but does not want agreements with the splitters of Bersani and D'Alema, would gladly do without them, but everything will depend on the numbers, especially if the grillini continue to refuse alliances.
