Poltronesofà: the Antitrust puts advertising under scrutiny

The Antitrust has opened an investigation into Poltronesofà for alleged unfair commercial practices connected to some advertising messages broadcast both on television and on the web.

In particular, the suspicion that something is wrong is concentrated on three statements by the furniture company:

  • “double sales double savings: 50% discount plus up to 40% on the entire collection” with financing up to “48 months without interest”;
  • “2.500 sofas for just 99 euros”;
  • “we overvalue your used car up to 1.500 euros”.

According to the Antitrust, "these are notices that would appear to contain misleading and/or omissive information on the contents of the advertised promotions, their duration and the actual price of the products sold".

Poltronesofà proposes “very advantageous conditions of sale – it continues in the Authority's note – in order to induce the consumer to visit the point of sale only to discover that the purchase involves more onerous conditions than those advertised. Finally, the messages would give the erroneous belief that it is necessary to hurry up with the purchase in order to benefit from the 48-month interest-free promotion”.

The Antitrust has also carried out some inspections in the Poltronesofà headquarters and in some points of sale.
