To eat the Excellent Neapolitan pizza you have to go to Caserta or Verona. Gambero Rosso's 2023 Italian Pizzeria Guide, now in its tenth edition, has in fact awarded this year with the maximum score, 96/100, four master pizza makers who need no introduction: Renato Bosco della Pizzeria of San Martino Buon Albergo (VR), Francesco Martucci de The Masanielli in Caserta, Franco Pepe of Pepper in grains of Caiazzo (CE) and Simone Padoan de The Tigli of San Bonifacio (VR).

If the Campania firmly holds the primacy of the Region for the highest number of quality pizzerias, a good 23, incredibly the second place in the standings belongs to Toscana with 16 clubs, followed by Lazio with 13.

Generally surprising great advance of the central-northern regions that surpass the southern regions in terms of goodness of pizza. In fact, in fourth place we find Lombardy with 8 establishments, Piedmont and Veneto with 7, Sicily with 6, Sardinia with 4; Abruzzo and Emilia – Romagna with 3. In these ten years commented the CEO of Il Gambero Rosso, Luigi Salerno “we have seen a increase in quality pizzerias, thanks also to an increasingly attentive, aware and demanding public. A small niche of pizza makers has been able to make way for the many young people who take up this profession, contributing to the growth of the entire agri-food sector. Products such as pizza have a strategic function for the diffusion and success of Made in Italy food&beverage in the world.”

The president confirms the great evolution underway Paolo Cuccia he was keen to underline that “in the first edition of July 2013, on the podium with the highest score – with three segments and three wheels – there were 25 pizzerias on the plate and 5 pizzerias by the slice; Today on the podium we find 96 pizzas by the plate and 12 pizzas by the slice. The sector grows, evolves and improves constantly”.
