Faced with the pressure from the Democratic Party, Prime Minister Conte announces the end of the early retirement with the very expensive 100 quota wanted by Salvini who is now threatening a very tough opposition.

Pensions, Quota 100 goodbye and the League rises

"The renewal of Quota 100 is not on the agenda". "The League won't let you." Quick response between Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and the former government ally on the farewell to the much-disputed pension formula: the Prime Minister elegantly liquidated it, suggesting that it didn't work and that it's time for the Government to turn the page, but officially justifying itself by claiming that "Quota 100 was a three-year reform project that came to make up for a social unease", and that therefore after three years it will not be re-proposed. Conte therefore gave in to pressure from the Democratic Party (and Italia Viva), demonstrating that after the regional elections the orientation of the majority could change on some issues, think also of the security decrees.

“Among the reforms that await us, we can also work on that of pensions – added Conte intervening in connection with the Trento Festival of Economics, interviewed by Tito Boeri – We have to get together around a table, for example making a list of strenuous jobs seems to me the best prospect. A university professor would like to work at the age of seventy, while in many strenuous occupations we cannot envisage such a long working life. We must have the courage to differentiate”. The reaction of the Northern League leader Matteo Salvini was immediate: “They want to go back to the Fornero law!? The League won't let him, I promise. You don't mess with the sacrifices of millions of Italian workers and workers ".

On the other hand, Conte's move has garnered the convinced support of Matteo Renzi and Italia Viva, one of the current government partners: “The abolition of Quota 100 is an important turning point. After changing tack in Europe, let's get serious about pensions again making up for the damage of the populist government. Next goal: the Mes”. Also on another measure designed by the previous executive, and this time the flag of the M5S, Conte announced a fine-tuning: the basic income, which will be reviewed. “Luckily we had a social protection measure such as the Citizenship Income to which we added the Emergency Income. Of course you can always improve in the implementation phase. The project for entering the world of work linked to the citizen's income still sees us behind: we have to change".
