Pensions, INPS: 6,4 million checks under one thousand euros per month

While the president of INPS engages in a new controversy with the government, guilty of having endorsed an overpriced reform, the institution he directs releases the latest data on the incomes of Italian pensioners and the picture that emerges is once again not very comforting.

Despite the fact that pension spending has increased by 1,2%, exceeding 280 billion euros, it is still difficult for many retirees to make ends meet.

Going into detail, according to the information published today by the National Social Security Institute, 6,4 million pensioners, 39,6% in percentage terms receive a check of less than 1.000 euros per month, down from 40,3 % of 2014.

But the data provides another detail. Reiterating the existing gender gap in the labor market, the differences between men and women are abysmal also with regard to pensions: 48,3% of Italian pensioners do not get a thousand euros a month compared to 29,8% of men .

The increase in pension expenditure was accompanied by a decrease in overall benefits, which fell to 23,1 million with an average of 1,4 checks per pensioner. The total beneficiaries therefore amount to 16,2 million, while the average amount for treatments is equal to 12.136 euros per year.

In terms of average retirement income: 2,03 million retirees receive an allowance of less than €500 per month, 3,36 million receive between €500 and €1.000 per month, while 6,2 million retirees have retirement income between 1.000 and 2.000 euros per month. There are just over a million holders of social security benefits exceeding 3.000 euros. Among the retirees with the highest incomes, women are just 273.127 compared to 780.482 men.

Gender differences are also found in relation to the average amount of pension income per pensioner: 20.431 euros for men, 14.543 for women. Finally, from a geographical point of view, the average pension income is equal to 18.599 euros in the North, 18.843 euros in the Center and 15.589 euros in the South.
