Electronic payments: no commissions up to 5 euros

A protocol is coming that establishes the zeroing of commissions on micro payments - The novelty is foreseen as part of the cashless plan on which the government is aiming to encourage the spread of electronic payments

Electronic payments: no commissions up to 5 euros

Merchants will no longer pay commissions for electronic payments up to 5 euros. This is what is foreseen by a protocol designed by the Government to meet the requests of professionals, who often and willingly consider it inconvenient to accept electronic payments for small sums precisely because of the commissions, but also to encourage the development of the Cashless Plan which will start in December with the aim of encouraging the use of electronic payments in Italy.

Government sources let it be known that, during discussions with operators, all interested parties gave their willingness to join the initiative on a voluntary basis.

News could soon arrive also for i electronic payments up to 10 or 25 euros. Even in these cases there would be willingness to reduce or eliminate commissions (as some operators already do with specific commercial proposals), even if the arrival of an ad hoc protocol is not foreseen.

The zeroing of commissions on small amounts, as mentioned, is part of the cashless plan. The cashbank mechanism, which provides that anyone who spends at least 3 euros a year – 1.500 euros per semester – paying by credit or debit card, debit card or wire transfer will be entitled to a refund of up to 300 euros, i.e. 10% of the expected expenditure. Be careful though, because the rule will only apply to purchases made physically in shops - at least 50 purchases - and not to online payments.
