Company Description

Orange S.A it's a'French telecommunications company and one of the leaders in the sector. The areas it operates in are: fixed line telephony, broadband access, mobile telephony and most recently, Orange-TV which is currently active only in France, Spain and Slovakia. Orange TV is a IPTV, a system for transmitting television signals over computer networks.

The company until 2013 was called France Telecom.

It has 266 million customers worldwide and approximately 143.000 employees. It is the 11th mobile operator in the world and the 3rd in Europe after Vodafone e Telefónica. It operates in various countries of the world.

The head office is in Paris.

Orange has been listed on the stock exchange since 1996.

Among the main shareholders of Orange we find the French government with a 23% share through theAgence des partecipazionis de l'État (13,4%) and the Public investment bank (Bpifrance Participations SA at 9,56%).

Economic and financial analysis of the company

France Télécom was founded in 1988 as a public company of the French government. It was then privatized in 1991 and listed on the stock exchange in 1996. The Orange brand was founded by Hutchison whampoa and after a series of changes of hands it was sold in 2000 by Vodafone to France Telecom. From 1 July 2013, France Télécom changed its name to Orange, to better represent an international dimension.

In Italy the company was active from 1997 to 2003, as founder, together with Enel e Deutsche Telekom, Wind Telecommunications.

In 2008 Orange buys cityvox, a network of websites with local content (restaurants, cultural events, etc.) created in 1999.

In August 2010 it acquired 11% of Deezer, a streaming site.

In January 2011 Orange announces the acquisition of 49% of the streaming platform Dailymotion. In 2013 he obtained full control of it. In 2015 the company sells 90% of the company to Vivendi.

In September 2014, Orange Spain, subsidiary of Orange, acquires Jazztel for 3,4 billion euros. Jazztel is a Spanish telecommunications company that offers triple play services (telephone, Internet and television).

In 2015 completes the acquisition of cloudwatt, a cloud service provider. In 2020 the project fails and the company is closed.

In 2019 Orange acquires a minority stake in Air Labs, a UK credit data platform and buys UK cyber security provider SecureData merging it with its division Orange Cyberdefense. It also acquires SecureLink, a Netherlands-based cybersecurity company, for €515 million. Also in 2019, through the subsidiary Orange España, it acquired SUMA Móvil Spain.

The 9 November 2020, OTE and Orange have announced their agreement to sell OTE's stake in communications Telekom Romania to the French group.

As of June 2021, Orange is partnering with Sanofi, Capgemini e Generali to launch Future4care to help develop businesses focused on digital health.
