Open Fiber also brings optical fiber to Bisceglie in Puglia

The Municipality of Bisceglie looks to the future. The junta has given favorable direction for the approval of the agreement with Open Fiber for the construction in the municipal area of an ultra-broadband internet network completely in optical fiber, with an investment for the company of around 5 million euros aimed at reaching about 16 real estate units. The agreement does not include costs for the Municipality e includes coverage of 50 public administration buildings which will include schools, offices and other public venues. The works will be carried out in such a way as to minimize the environmental impact of the interventions and the inconvenience for citizens, reusing, where possible, already existing network infrastructures.

The optical fiber will be installed in FTTH mode (Fiber To The Home, i.e. up to within individual property units), the only one capable of guaranteeing connection speeds of up to one Gigabit (1000 Megabit) per second and a latency of less than 5 milliseconds, practically a response time comparable to “real time”. "The ongoing health emergency is showing us how necessary it is to be equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure," said the Mayor of Bisceglie, Angelantonio Angarano. “The agreement with Open Fiber allows us to obtain more and more efficient services for the community with a stable and high-performance internet connection. Let's think, just to give some examples, of smart working, distance learning but also face-to-face lessons with the help of the web, of the greater opportunities for companies that have one more tool to be competitive".

"The agreement for the construction of the telecommunications network entirely in optical fiber comes thanks to the fruitful collaboration established with the municipal administration of Bisceglie - underlines Dorotea Lo Greco, Institutional Affairs representative of Open Fiber for the South – a relationship that continued unabated even during the most critical phases of the pandemic. It is important to specify that all the activities are entirely borne by Open Fiber, without any disbursement by the Municipality or by the individual users who will use our network".

The works have been started in recent months in limited areas of the city. The signing of the agreement now makes it possible to plan construction site activities in the best possible way and in a homogeneous way, with the closure of the activities expected within 18 months. In progress, with the progress of the works, it will already be possible to activate the connections. In this regard it is good to point out that Open Fiber does not address the end customer directly but operates in the wholesale market, offering its services to market operators in the telecommunications sector. Where excavation interventions are necessary (with tracks 10 centimeters wide), the road surface will be filled with cement mortar and, once the road has settled, the road surface will be restored with scarification of the section, again at the expense of the company. and resurfacing.
