Holland, Belgium, Italy and Vatican City. These are the stages of the next European tour of the president of the United States, Barack Obama, scheduled for the end of March.
As stated in a note, the number one of the White House will be in the Vatican on March 27 to meet Pope Francis, "with whom he will discuss the common commitment to the fight against poverty and growing inequalities". The president and first lady Michelle met with Bergoglio's predecessor, Benedict XVI, in July 2009, also at the Vatican.
In Rome, the note continues, Obama will meet the President of the Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, and the Prime Minister, Enrico Letta.
Before arriving in the Italian capital, Obama will be in the Netherlands on March 24 and 25, on the occasion of the summit on nuclear security, where world leaders will highlight the progress made and "commit to take future steps to prevent nuclear terrorism" .
Obama will also participate in bilateral events with the Dutch authorities. On March 26, then, Obama will be in Brussels, for a meeting with the leaders of the European Council and the European Commission. A meeting with the NATO secretary general and with the Belgian authorities is also planned.
