Appointments: postponement for CDP, change in sight in Saipem

The uncertainty of the political situation causes the appointments at the top of the Cassa depositi e prestiti (Cdp) to be postponed to the second half of June, the meeting of which should have been held in mid-May, a period in which it is not said that there is already a new government in the fullness of powers.

According to rumors, the CEO of Cdp, Fabio Gallia, is considered to be outgoing while the position of the president Claudio Costamagna, an internationally renowned banker, whose designation belongs primarily to the banking foundations which hold 16% of the capital, is more uncertain of the Cassa and who have always expressed appreciation for the former manager of Goldman Sachs.

However, the fate of the top management of Saipem, an oil plant engineering company controlled by Cdp and Eni, seems to be marked, which will hold its assembly on May 3 but for whose board the lists must be presented in a few days and precisely by April 9, when it will be the Gentiloni government is still in office for ordinary administration, which will therefore proceed with the designations after hearing from the political groups that emerged victorious from the elections of March 4, M5S and Lega, which seem oriented towards giving life to the new government.

The management of CEO Cao is contested above all in the light of the findings on the 2016 financial statements made by Consob and his reconfirmation appears unlikely. President Paolo Andrea Colombo should leave the scene together with Cao, whom the Gentiloni government would like to replace with the former CEO of Poste Italiane, Francesco Caio, current consultant to the Minister for Economic Development, Carlo Calenda.
