Mozilla enters the smartphone market. The free software community supported by the Mozilla Foundation and its subsidiary Mozilla Corporation is determined to take the big step, one year after the market release of Firefox Os, the operating system for mobile devices born from an offshoot of the better-known Firefox web browser .
The announcement was made at Mobile World Congress 2014 by Mitchell Baker, co-founder of the Mozilla Foundation. Mozilla has decided to conquer emerging countries, where the appetite for mobile phones has not yet translated into the purchase of high-end equipment such as Apple and Samsung models.
It would be a mobile phone with all the features of a smartphone, therefore with Internet access and the possibility of downloading applications, for only 25 dollars.
This will be possible thanks to the partnership with Spreadtrum, a Chinese manufacturer of low-end chips, and to Zram technology, capable of reducing production costs thanks to a memory compression technique that allows system requirements to be lowered to just 128 Mb .
