Monti: now liberalizations and spending reviews

In his speech in the Senate before the vote of confidence that will transform the decree into law today, the Premier invited Italians to "have faith" and to "buy Bots" - To liberalize "we will intervene with courageous actions" - Long work on spending is underway public - Labor reform: the government will have a "structured agenda of meetings" with the trade unions.

Monti: now liberalizations and spending reviews

Italians "buy Italian debt securities": show "trust" in the country. A hyper-patriotic appeal launched today by Prime Minister Mario Monti, who spoke in the Senate shortly before the last vote of confidence in the economic maneuver, that this afternoon it has become law. In addition to the League, IDV also opposed the green light.

“To tackle the sovereign debt crisis – continued the Professor -, it is essential that we all look to Italy's government bonds with confidence, it is necessary for Italians to subscribe to BOTs and CCTs which today have very high yields. It is necessary that we have faith in ourselves, in the ability to take the future of our children into our own hands”.

ON COMING LIBERALIZATIONS COURAGEOUS ACTIONS

Much criticism has rained down on the Executive also for the decision to de facto exclude liberalizations from the purse of the budget. On this point today Monti guaranteed that "the government is ready to intervene with courageous actions". We will listen to "all the suggestions even on delicate sectors such as pharmacies, they are suggestions on which the government will work with great attention".

NOW IT'S THE SPENDING CUTS

Furthermore, in the so-called phase two of the government action, the spending review action will be central: “We will start an intense in-depth study on the public expenditure side, starting from the central administrations of the State. It won't be a work of days but a work of months, but it will be a work that will lead to lasting results”.

AGENDA OF MEETINGS WITH SOCIAL PARTIES

Another burning issue touched upon by the Prime Minister during his speech is that of the relationship between the government and the social partners. In the last week, the controversy between the unions has flared up with the Minister of Welfare, Elsa Fornero, who after having hinted at the possibility of modifying article 18 of the Workers' Statute, has recently backtracked.

“For an issue that will be key such as that of the labor market and social safety nets – Monti clarified -, it will be necessary and possible to proceed with a style of relations with the social partners, different from the one we had in this first phase. With respect to pensions and taxation, in fact, this is an issue which by its very nature requires dialogue with the social partners. We will have a structured agenda of meetings”.

WITH THE MANEUVER WE FACE THE CRISIS HEAD UP

The Premier then returned to comment on the decree which today will be converted into law by Palazzo Madama. To arrive at the new package of measures, "rapid, responsible and in-depth work was carried out, carried out with absolute respect and appreciation by the government of this Parliament, on an extremely urgent decree which allows Italy to face head on the very serious European crisis”.

In short, a necessary intervention, because "there is no growth without financial discipline, there is no stability if the balance sheets are not in order". The "sacrifices" asked of the Italians are "significant", but if this maneuver had not been launched, "they would have been many more". Italy will work to ensure that Europe changes and pursues growth and is less "cold and insensitive". This was stated by the Prime Minister, Mario Monti, during his speech in the Senate Hall.

EUROPE IS NOT COLD, WE ARE WORKING FOR GROWTH

As for the European Union, “the choices of all the member countries – Monti said – must pursue the objective of lasting growth, employment and cohesion. A more community-based Europe in which the member countries are subject to stringent rules must also be more supportive and close to the citizens, it must neither be nor appear cold and insensitive. In the debate that I thank you for having allowed me on EU policy, I saw a lively signal - he added - for the Italian government to represent an evolution of EU policies in the sense of growth. This belief is yours and it is mine."
