World Championships of Extreme Wines: 29 wines from 30 countries of the world will compete in Val d'Aosta on 832 and 24 September

The world competition reserved for wines produced above 500 m asl on slopes greater than 30%, on terraces, steps and small islands. At the same time the second edition of Extrêmes Spirits International Contest,

World Championships of Extreme Wines: 29 wines from 30 countries of the world will compete in Val d'Aosta on 832 and 24 September

Ottocentrotrentadue wines from 24 countries around the world, sthey will compare them on 29 and 30 September, in Sarre (Aosta) for the 30th edition of the Mondial des Vins Extremes - organized by Cervim Heroic viticulture.

Among the most significant participations - and highly symbolic in this historical phase - that of a Ukrainian company with 2 labels; , participation of Brazil – for the first time – with 10 labels from 4 companies. Between the Moldova is also new. In total 23 countries foreigners will participate with 129 companies and 388 wines in competition: usual massive participation of Spain with 141 labels; of Switzerland with 53; of Germany with 45; but also of France with 26 wines in competition; then, of Georgia, Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia and Portugal, Argentina, the United States, Malta, Slovakia, Kazakhstan, North Macedonia, Lebanon, Armenia, Andorra, Chile, Palestine.   

Will 18 instead the heroic Italian regions with 444 labels from 173 companies: Valle d'Aosta leads with 81 wines, Veneto with 46, followed by Trentino with 43, Tuscany 42 and Sicily 36, Lombardy and Liguria with 35 wines.

At the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes only i wines produced from grapes of vineyards which have at least one of the following permanent structural difficulties: – altitude above 500 m aslm., with the exception of the viticultural systems in the plateau; – terrain slopes greater than 30%; - vineyard systems on terraces or steps; – viticulture of small islands.

The particularity of the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes is mainly due to the variety of wines for tasting, produced mostly from native vines, characterized by unique terroirs which indelibly mark the aromas and flavors and which make this competition unique in the panorama of world wine competitions.

“A 30th edition of the Mondial des vins Extrêmes which represents a great achievement for Cervim and for the Italian and international heroic viticulture – underlines the president of Cervim, Stefano Celi -. If we look back, we can blow out the thirty candles of the Mondial with great satisfaction. The competition continues to grow in visibility, and the numbers of this edition confirm a large participation from all over the world, despite the difficulties for companies related to the international situation, the energy crisis and inflation, the post covid and the 2021 harvest which in some areas of heroic viticulture has not been positive in terms of quantity. Symbolic and significant is the participation of a winery from Ukraine, and for the first time from Brazil, a country with enormous potential. It is a competition that enhances and enhances authentic islands of viticultural biodiversity, as well as safeguarding unique landscapes".

Finally, back there too second edition of Extrêmes Spirits International Contest, the competition reserved for distillates: traditional productions in the areas of heroic viticulture - just think of the mountains -, a sector closely linked to viticulture. The competition reserved for heroic distillates is one of a kind and the products presented will be judged by a special commission. This year, in addition to Italy, participations from Switzerland and Chile.
