Metalworkers, Bentivogli: a sign is needed that the negotiation is at a turning point

“We need to give the sign of a new beginning, so far we have clashed on two positions. Your latest proposal of 28 September – declared the general secretary of the Fim-Cisl, Marco Bentivogli – is close to our positions even if there are still spaces to fill. We must gather all the common elements to push the negotiation towards the final stage. We reminded Federmeccanica that Italian industry needs a modern and truly innovative contract (not just in words), which applies to all metalworkers, which introduces important new elements on information rights and worker participation (also launching trials of participatory governance to increase industrial competitiveness), on welfare, on continuous training, on supplementary pensions, which recognizes a more incisive and stronger role for workers' health and safety representatives and which guarantees greater control over the legality and safety of contracts " .

“It is useful to clarify that since 93 we have been discounting a confusion between the roles of the National Collective Labor Agreement and the second-level salary. The performance bonuses must be a stimulus to increase the competitiveness of businesses and to distribute and increase wages” added the leader of the Fim-Cisl after today's meeting of the trade unions with the industrialists.

“You have taken a step back – said Bentivogli addressing Federmeccanica – on the initial availability regarding the reform of the classification. Instead, it is necessary to go beyond the revision of profiles and declarations, implementing the reform that we have been asking of you for years. On the eve of the fourth industrial revolution, it is not possible to have a Fordist-style system rewarding professionalism, but to enhance new skills, starting with the rapid recovery of digital skills as a precondition for entering the fourth industrial revolution. Precisely in a period of low inflation it is important not to make workers lose money, protecting the purchasing power of their wages without suffering any decline. Deferred recovery is not problematic on wages, provided that there is a one-off recovery of the uncovered periods, to avoid causing losses for the worker".

This is why “your proposal is still insufficient, the idea of not recognizing 100% inflation is an unacceptable point for us. The proposed Flexible Benefits are positive for the net benefits they bring, but it is essential to manage a national and territorial negotiation to make this tool more effective. Absorbability cannot relate to the company salary already negotiated. The hypothesis of the duration of the CCNL which is proposed for a period of 4 years, it is useful that it is reviewed and reduced. Today we must all together give an unequivocal sign that the negotiation is at a turning point, that pace is changing and all the elements are starting to be gathered in order to be able to start the final phase. There is space to start a new and final phase of the negotiation".
