Colpaccio of Mediaset: the Biscione was awarded the exclusive rights to the Champions League for three seasons, for a figure of around 660 million for the entire three-year period. Mediaset has thus acquired the exclusive rights to all TV rights (pay and free) for the matches of the main European football competition in the three-year period 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18.
The auction of the previous three-year period, the one that will close with the next 2014-15 tournament, had been assigned to Sky for around 120 million a year, while Mediaset paid around thirty million to have a free-to-air match for each round: in all therefore an auction of 450 million for the last three years swept away by the figures of the new auction closed today.
And the markets immediately liked the operation: this morning the Mediaset stock gets off on the right foot in Piazza Affari, where shortly after 9 am it is already gaining almost 2%, approaching 4 euros.
