Marco Bentivogli founds “Base Italia”: Cottarelli is there too

The former leader of the CISL metalworkers, Marco Bentivogli, founded the "Base Italia" association, which brings together intellectuals, economists, jurists, academics, social and cultural personalities with the official objective of exploring the new horizons opened by impetuous development of new technologies and to create a network of "reformists and progressives" capable of offering "good ideas" to politics.

Among the first adherents are Carlo Cottarelli, Luciano Floridi, Sandro Trento, Mauro Magatti.

Bentivogli's personality gives us a glimpse of the next steps in the foundation of "Base Italia" which takes the form of a laboratory that sooner or later will lead to the political debut of the former trade unionist, perhaps in an attempt to unite the reformist centre-left that goes from Carlo Calenda to Matteo Renzi and Emma Bonino with their respective political groups. However, "Base Italia" will not become a party and will not be one of the usual think tanks.

"Italy must grow again" reads the founding manifesto of the Bentivogli association, aware that to reach the goal a courageous and innovative policy that knows how to look ahead is needed. "The crisis that our country is going through - the manifesto continues - is not only economic: it is also civil, social and moral". This is why we need to roll up our sleeves and act for change.
