The recent bad weather that hit theEmilia Romagna caused significant damage to the cereal sector of the region. According to the estimates by Coldiretti and CAI – Agricultural Consortiums of Italy presented on the occasion of the "Giornate in Campo 2023", a soft wheat harvest equivalent to production of 200 million of kilos of bread was destroyed by the flood. A loss that has a significant impact on national grain production, as theEmilia-Romagna represents 8% of the Italian agricultural area, with over one million hectares under cultivation. This year, out of an area of ​​around 570 hectares of soft wheat nationwide, it is estimated that 160 hectares will be sown in the region, corresponding to just under 30% of the entire cultivated area nationwide.

Reduction of grain production up to 15%

The flood damage in the region have resulted in a 12% to 15% reduction in grain production. THE most affected areas they include Forlì, Cesena, Ravenna, Faenza, and parts of the Bologna and Rimini areas, according to what is reported by the monitoring of Coldiretti and Cai - Agricultural Consortia of Italy. Local farmers suffered heavy losses, putting their livelihoods and the agricultural economy of the region at risk.
