Bad weather: alarm again, Po at risk

The bad weather emergency gives no respite and this time it is the Po that is scary. In the last twelve hours, the main Italian river has continued to swell and new increases are expected in the next 24-48 hours, according to data from Aipo, the inter-regional agency for the Po river. In the section between Casalmaggiore and Borgoforte, the flood is near at high criticality levels (level 3).

“The utmost caution is required – writes the Agency – in all areas facing the river and in general in relation to structures or activities that may be affected by the flood. It is advisable to contact the local civil protection authorities in relation to all situations that may present potential risks".

Meanwhile, the victims of bad weather rise to five: the last is a 37-year-old gardener, found drowned in Crema, in the province of Cremona, near a mill invaded by water.

As for forecasts, the wave of rain that has hit the north-west of the country in recent days is sliding towards the southern regions. During the day, precipitation is expected, including downpours or thunderstorms in Campania, Basilicata, Puglia, Calabria and Sicily.

Starting tomorrow, however, there will be a sharp deterioration starting from the central-north, with abundant rains in Liguria, upper Piedmont, the Prealps, Friuli and upper Tuscany. At the end of Saturday the perturbation will also reach Molise, upper Puglia and Campania. The storms will continue until Tuesday, then from Wednesday the pressure will increase throughout the peninsula, bringing back good weather.
