Mafia in Milan: 11 arrests for Expo

Those involved allegedly obtained 3 million euros in contracts from the Fiera Milano organization through the Nolostand company in 20 years – The orders for 4 pavilions of Expo 2015 are in the sights of the investigators: France, Kuwait, Equatorial Guinea and a sponsor.

Mafia in Milan: 11 arrests for Expo

The Gdf arrested 11 people accused of conspiracy to promote the interests of Cosa Nostra in Milan. Those involved allegedly obtained 3 million euros in contracts from the Fiera Milano body through the Nolostand company in 20 years. In the investigators' sights the orders of 4 pavilions of Expo 2015: France, Kuwait, Equatorial Guinea and a sponsor. 

Regarding the sponsor, it would be about the Poretti Beer stand inside the Expo. The Fiamme Gialle also carried out a preventive seizure of several million euros. At the center of the investigation by the Milan Dda is the Dominus Scarl consortium of cooperatives specialized in setting up stands.

According to the investigations coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Ilda Boccassini and by prosecutors Paolo Storari and Sara Ombra, the companies of the consortium were registered to frontmen of Giuseppe Nastasi, the main suspect, arrested with his collaborator Liborio Pace and the lawyer of the Court of Caltanissetta, Danilo Tipo, former president of the criminal chamber of the city Sicilian.

The companies involved resorted to one fake invoice system to create slush funds. The money was then laundered in Sicily where the suspects had ties to the Cosa Nostra family of the Pietraperzias.

"We will guarantee the suspects a rapid process and therefore we will proceed with the request for the immediate procedure and the transcription of all the interceptions in a short time". Thus Ilda Boccassini, coordinator of the Milanese dda, during the press conference to illustrate the operation conducted by the Gico of the Guardia di Finanza which led to 11 arrests. “No criminal liability for the Fair organization or Expo”.
