London: record for Alberto Burri at Sotheby's

New record for Alberto Burri: “Sacco e Rosso” (c. 1959) sold for €11.779.799. This doubles the previous record for Burri (£4.7m, February 2014) and that of 5 years ago where the record for Burri was only £1.9m. Sacco e Rosso from 1959 was sold in 2007 for €3.376.000. This achievement now places Burri in the art market alongside Manzoni and Fontana (Piero Manzoni's rec. £12.6m and Lucio Fontana rec. £19.3m). Also of note, a 1959 Achrome by Piero Manzoni was purchased by a private American collector for €3.379.143. The total of the auction session achieved €89.827.274 and saw the participation of buyers from 38 countries.
