Art and Romanticism, a special reading for the 4th September 2014 auction to be held at Christie's London. No less than 209 works of art from the Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite, Traditionalist and Impressionist periods, mostly by artists from Northern Europe and England, all from a well-known collection.

Mainly pictorial works, with different techniques, tempera, oil, watercolor, depicting portraits, romantic subjects and landscapes. This passion for "romantic" art almost out of fashion in a period where everything is concentrated on the contemporary, will certainly interest a select and mostly Anglo-Saxon public. The estimates in the catalog allow for a favorable approach for those who collect this type of art.

A work with multiple souls, from Mannerism to Pre-Raphaelitism, intriguing for its contours in a space that even comes to think of metaphysical painting. We could define it as a modern work such as to also interest collectors of contemporary art with a predilection painted with traits that conceptually evoke the figure.

Note about the author:
Born in Dundee, Stronach attended the Glasgow School of Art. He was a member of the Royal Scottish Academy and also lectured in Mural Painting at the Glasgow School of Art until the outbreak of the Second World War. Like many of the Celtic Symbolists, Stronach's work illustrates the influences of early Italian fresco painters and Pre-Raphaelitism. The rich and bold way becomes perfect for stained glass making. In this work Stronach depicts Circe, a character from Greek mythology, more commonly known from Homer in the Odyssey. Circe is portrayed by Homer as a beautiful sorceress whose charm and skill with magical herbs and potions allows her to turn enemies into animals. She is often represented visually in the company of animals, particularly lions and wolves tamed by her magic.
