While waiting for the sporting performances of the Azzurri athletes in the competition, Made in Italy wins another medal – And it does, as always, with one of its greatest excellences: wine – Gavi was chosen by the Italian chef Nicola Batavia, at the third Olympics as food&beverage manager of Casa Nike, one of the most coveted hospitality spaces of the event

London 2012 – Piedmontese wine Gavi Docg protagonist at the Olympics: it will be served at Casa Nike

Italy leaves for London with a reduced expedition, with lower hopes of a medal than in recent editions, but with one certainty: made in Italy has already won its gold medal. Among the many excellences that will surround the life of the Olympic Village during the thirtieth edition of the Games, in addition to Venetian eco-cutlery of the Schio Pinze Factory and special adhesives and chemical products for sports facilities supplied by Giorgio Squinzi's Mapei, and without forgetting the Torch, icon of the event, created thanks to the technologies of the Piedmontese Prima Industrie, there is also another product historically symbol of Italian know-how: wine.

To be precise the Gavi Docg, a prestigious Piedmontese white wine, which directly from the province of Alessandria will land in Casa Nike, one of the most coveted hospitality spaces of the event, where it will be served to thousands of guests from all over the world. What better showcase, if not that of historic building in Kings Cross St Pancreas, in the heart of the City, which the world's leading sports brand and main sponsor of the Olympics will set aside for gala evenings for international journalists, VIPs, athletes, yesterday's and today's Olympic medalists, international politicians and buyers.

The precious initiative was born from one precise choice of Piedmontese wines desired by chef Nicola Batavia, called to manage the food & beverage space of CasaNike: the chef from Turin (his is the Birichin Restaurant opened in the Piedmontese capital in '94) will in fact be the Olympic chef of the Nike Vip House for the third consecutive time.

After Turin 2006 and Beijing 2008, from 27 July Batavia will animate London 2012 with its Mediterranean cuisine, articulated in an exclusively Italian fusion, between super traditional Piedmontese dishes and searches for ingredients that cannot be found between the north and south of the country. The whole washed down with the best Gavi Docg cuvées from the wineries associated with the Gavi Protection Consortium, which will accompany the dinners designed by the chef of Lucanian origins.
