Leonardo, through the US subsidiary Leonardo DRS, has been awarded a new one contract worth approximately 80 million US dollars which provides for an additional supply, destined for the US Army and Marine Corps, of TROPHY systems for the active protection of Abrams tanks. The contract brings the total funded value of the program to over 200 million US dollars and will allow additional brigades to be equipped with TROPHY systems.
The TROPHY system, developed by Leonardo DRS in collaboration with the Israeli technological partner Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, ensures effective protection against the threats of rockets and anti-tank missiles, while at the same time locating and signaling the origin of hostile fire for a immediate reaction. TROPHY greatly improves crew and vehicle survivability. The system uses active electronically scanned radar to detect threats in even extreme operating conditions, providing the tank with continuous 360-degree protection.
Also, an on-board computer it is able to record and classify the detected threat. Leonardo DRS, based in the USA, operates in the Defense and Security sector providing products, services and integrated support to military forces, intelligence and defense agencies on an international scale.
