Electoral law, ok to the first trusts

Amid disputes and controversies, articles 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the electoral reform received the confidence of the Senate.

The Senate has given the green light to the third and fourth confidence votes requested by the government on electoral reform. In the last vote, 150 senators voted in favor, 60 against. 148 yes in the third vote, 61 no, zero abstentions. Thus articles 3 and 4 of the Rosatellum Bis were also approved.

Previously Palazzo Madama had already said yes to the second vote of confidence (on article 2) with 151 yes, 61 no, no abstentions. The first trust was passed with the same numbers: 150 yes, 61 no and no abstentions.

We proceed with the fifth and final vote on as many trust issues (five in all) posed by the government. The explanations of vote and the final vote will be tomorrow morning Thursday 26 October at 12.

There were many protests and uproars in the courtroom at Palazzo Madama, similar to what happened in Montecitorio on the occasion of the first reading of the provision. Worth mentioning is the speech by the president emeritus Giorgio Napolitano who, with a declaration of vote, explained his perplexities and his doubts on the use of trust but still voted in favour. "With all the problems and reservations that I have motivated, I pronounce myself out of trust in the Gentiloni government, to safeguard the value of stability, to allow, even in this part of the legislature, continuity of action for reforms", he declared Napolitano.
