The 2022 challenge for Gelato of the year is a "Sweet Symphony" of chocolate and hazelnut

It will be “Dolce Sinfonia”, aa variation of chocolate and hazelnut ice cream the theme on which master gelato makers from all over the world will compete for Gelato Day, the event that has been celebrated for ten years now on 24 March.

For the tenth edition of Gelato Day, an exception will be made to the rule whereby until now the "Flavor of the Year" was selected from a different European country. For 2022, however, the master gelato makers from all over Europe will decide the recipe, on which they will compete in the new competition organized by Artglace, in collaboration with Longarone Fiere Dolomiti and the Italian Exhibition Group (IEG).

The European Artisanal Gelato Day, thethe only "Day" so far dedicated to a food was established on 5 July 2012 by the European Parliament with this motivation: "Among the fresh dairy products, artisanal ice cream represents excellence in terms of quality and food safety, enhancing the agro-food products of each individual Member State".  

Since its first edition on 24 March 2013, the "Gelato Day" has established itself as an unmissable appointment for gourmands of all ages, who among cones and cups, events, demonstrations and activities have paid homage to one of the most loved products , not only in Europe, but all over the world. In fact, year after year, the participation of gelato makers from every European country has multiplied, but also from Australia, Japan and the United States.

Gelato Day hasn't stopped even during the lockdowns, finding new ways, including digital ones, to offer a moment of sweetness in such difficult times for everyone. As happened in the 2021 edition: they opened the doors of their laboratories and revealed the secrets of preparing the Taste of the Year 2021, the Mantecado, in the video competition with dozens of videos testifying their creations step by step.

Participation in Gelato Day is free and open to all gelato makers in Europe, called upon to propose their own interpretation of hazelnut and chocolate-based ice cream, enriching the recipe with ingredients from their local area: the first selection is scheduled for Monday 29 November, from 11.00 to 14.00, on the occasion of the 61st MIG at Longarone Fiere Dolomiti ( 28 November – 1 December 2021), while the second phase will take place on Monday 24 January 2022 on the occasion of the 43rd Sigep at IEG's Rimini fair (22-26 January). The Jury will be chaired by the President of Artglace and made up of four members chosen from professionals in the sector: the qualitative verification and evaluation of the aesthetics of the tray will be followed by the evaluation of the entries based on four parameters, fundamental and in order of importance, i.e. taste , structure, originality of the recipe and, finally, the aesthetics of the tray. The winner will be awarded on Tuesday 25 January 2022, at 11,00 at Sigep in Rimini, and will sign the recipe for the Taste of the Year 2022, "Dolce Sinfonia" (complete regulation available on the website www.gelato-day.com).
