Donald Trump has said he is ready to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Speaking to Bloomberg News, the US president was clear: “I would definitely meet him and I would be honored. Many political leaders would never say they would like to meet him, but I tell you, under the right conditions, I would."
In the evening, the White House announced that at the moment there are not the right conditions for the meeting. Bianca spokesman Sean Spicer said the appointment is not scheduled now, adding that Kim should show signs of "good faith", without specifying which ones.
A few hours earlier, a spokesman for Pyongyang's foreign ministry had announced to KCNA, the state news agency, reported by South Korea's Yonha, that North Korea is ready to carry out a nuclear test "at any time and in any place decided by the supreme leadership".
Now that the US is inflating international pressure for sanctions against North Korea, "we will push at maximum speed for the development of nuclear deterrence" and "we are 100% ready to respond to any option decided by the United States".
Meanwhile, the director of the CIA, Mike Pompeo, has arrived in South Korea for an unannounced visit, confirmed the US embassy in Seoul, in the context of the crisis with North Korea. According to South Korean media reports, Pompeo arrived in the country over the weekend to meet with South Korea's intelligence chief and also senior presidential office officials.
