Jamie Reid, a Punk graphic designer in Modena

For the first time, the Galleria Civica di Modena intends to support a project through crowdfunding, the collective financing system that mobilizes people and resources to support an idea.

The system through crowdfunding it is used all over the world for the most varied purposes, from humanitarian to cultural ones, up to innovative entrepreneurship and scientific research: it is a tool used above all to break down the traditional barriers of financial investment. For the first time the Civic Gallery of Modena proposes to support a project of this type.

"We are convinced that it is an extraordinarily effective tool - said the director of the Modena Civic Gallery Marco Pierini - which allows the promoters of the initiatives to increase the availability of funds destined for them, and the public to participate, in a way effective, to the proposed cultural project".

Thanks to the opportunity offered by the Banca Interprovinciale di Modena, the Civic Gallery publishes a new proposal on the institute's web platform, COM-Unity, (www.com-unity.it) in support of the exhibition dedicated to Jamie Reid (1947), graphic designer of the Sex Pistols, author of radically revolutionary images, which became a symbol of the first wave of English punk.
Curated by Marco Pierini, created in collaboration with the Isis Gallery in Brighton and ONO contemporary art, the exhibition, which will open in Modena, at Palazzo Santa Margherita, on 12 September, is part of the events of the festivalfilosofia, whose theme , for 2014, has been identified in the concept of "glory".

You can participate with: 2 euros (your name will be published in the space reserved for acknowledgments on the Modena Civic Gallery website), 10 euros (you will receive 2 pins made with images taken from Jamie Reid's works and your name will be published in the space reserved for thanks on the Modena Civic Gallery website), 25 euro (you will receive 2 pins made with images taken from Jamie Reid's works, a poster of the exhibition and your name will be published in the space reserved for thanks on the Modena Civic Gallery website ), 100 euros (you will receive 2 pins made with images taken from the works of Jamie Reid, a poster and a pochette from the PER GRAZIA line made from banners and advertising tarpaulins of the exhibition, created by the students of the Deledda Institute and your name will be published in the space reserved for acknowledgments on the Modena Civic Gallery website), starting from 120 euros (alongside everything else, the publication of one's name on a special exhibition panel and a catalog chosen from a selection of those published by the Civic Gallery in the last few years).

The collection will be open for three months and ends on 30 September 2014. To contribute, connect to the site www.com-unity.itupon free registration. Reid's work, the absolute counterpart of the central theme of the festivalphilosophy, subverts every hierarchy and every rule and often expresses itself through the overturning of plans, systematic mockery, demystification. The Queen of England with safety pins on her cheeks or the symbol of the swastika on her eyes, represent the perfect symbol of what the interpreters themselves called "the great scam of Rock and Roll".

Drawings, collages, photographs will tell the best results of the talent of an anarchist, situationist, unconventional artist who has opened new paths in the world of image and communication. The main hall of Palazzo Santa Margherita will host a large recent installation made up of some Indian teepees created by the artist, inside which each visitor will find a stack of printed sheets with which he can build his own personal "catalogue" of the exhibition.

Upstairs, instead, about sixty drawings, graphics, projects, photographs, objects all linked to the imagination and history of English Punk. The funds raised through crowdfunding will help the institute, which offers the public admission to exhibitions and cultural events completely free of charge, to take care of the preparation of the exhibition, to organize collateral events and to publish number 13 of the free civic magazine 103. At the official closing of the fundraiser, an e-mail will be sent which will specify the terms for the withdrawal of the benefit. In case of failure to communicate, you can write to galcivmo@comune.modena.it
